Alumichem is proud to reflect on a highly successful participation at Aqua Sur 2026, held March 24–26 in Chile, the leading aquaculture event in the Southern Hemisphere.

Throughout the exhibition, our team welcomed a strong flow of visitors to the Danish Pavilion, where we engaged with industry professionals on how innovative water treatment solutions can support the next generation of land-based aquaculture. Discussions focused on improving operational efficiency, reducing sludge handling costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling water reuse, all critical factors for sustainable RAS operations.

Aqua Sur once again proved to be an important meeting point for collaboration across the aquaculture value chain. The interest in Alumichem’s customized effluent treatment solutions highlighted the growing demand for technologies that can both improve environmental performance and create operational value.

Our team: Trevor Gent, Laura Hernández Ruiz, and Moritz Baring, had the opportunity to connect with partners, customers, and new stakeholders, reinforcing Alumichem’s commitment to supporting sustainable aquaculture globally.

Insightful panel discussion on sustainable innovation

A key highlight of the event was Panel 4: “Innovation for Sustainability in Aquaculture”, where Laura Hernández Ruiz represented Alumichem.

During the session, Laura shared insights into Alumichem’s NAPRAS project, which focuses on advancing water treatment solutions for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). The panel brought together industry experts to discuss how innovation can address environmental challenges while supporting industry growth.

The discussion emphasized the importance of integrating new technologies that not only ensure compliance with tightening discharge regulations but also unlock new value streams from waste.

Advancing sustainability through the NAPRAS project

The NAPRAS project is a key example of Alumichem’s innovation efforts. It aims to develop a cost-effective, one-process solution for treating effluent water and valorizing sludge from RAS systems.

By combining multiple technologies, including biological nitrogen removal, chemical phosphorus precipitation, and advanced sludge processing, the project addresses some of the most pressing challenges in aquaculture.

Recent results from the project demonstrate strong performance:

  • Up to 90% higher phosphorus removal efficiency compared to conventional solutions
  • Improved removal of suspended solids and overall water quality
  • Potential to reach ultra-low phosphorus concentrations in treated water
